The city of Birmingham is about to get a facelift.
"The award of $10 million in federal dollars under the TIGER grant program," Mayor William Bell said.
$10 million that's all going toward sidewalk and road projects.
"The money will be spent towards a number of different projects throughout the city and other surrounding areas," Bell said.
Projects like street improvements in Pratt City, fixing entrance ramps at Jones Valley and street repairs in the Civil Rights District. Bell says improvements can be anything from repairs to brand new streets. He says the final details are still being ironed out.
"Once we receive the actual check in funding, then the process will go forward at that point," he said.
Councilman Johnathan Austin says he applauds Congresswoman Terri Sewell and the mayor for their leadership and dedication to the city of Birmingham.
"The complete streets and things like that help not only improve the community, but also helps with public health as it relates to being able to create more walkable communities," Austin said.
