Some alarming medical research regarding children and high blood pressure.

There is a sharp rise in the number of children that developed hypertension.

Researchers from the University of Michigan and C.S. Mott Children's Hospital found that children hospitalized with high blood pressure nearly doubled in a single decade..

Experts say this is in part be due to the rise in childhood obesity.

The newly released study showed an those hospitalizations rose from about 12,600 in 1997 to about 24,600 in 2006.

Also the cost for treating children with hypertension and end-stage kidney disease went up 50%.

Pediatricians say, counseling families and providing education on healthy diet and exercise, are the first step toward changing this trend.

Doctors say if it is not reversed, most of these children are going to die from cardiovascular disease in their 30s, 40s and 50s.

The finding appears in the latest journal, Hypertension.
