Center Point Fire investigators said a fatal house fire in the Robinwood community was an accident likely caused by children playing with matches.
Family members identified the victim as 34-year-old Kevin Barnes. Barnes' uncle said his nephew leaves behind a wife, a 7-year-old boy, and a 2-year-old girl.
"I think a lot of us are still in shock," said Len Barnes. "I'm still pinching myself trying to wake up."
The fire began around 11 am on 5th Street, and witnesses described hearing explosions caused by oxygen tanks inside the house.
Witnesses said when the fire began, the victim walked inside the house.
"There was no reason for him to go back in there," added Barnes. "There's nothing in that house worth his life or anybody's life."
Barnes said his nephew lived nearby but stayed in the house Sunday night. Family members rent the house, according to neighbors.
