Former NFL Football Player Mentors Children

Posted: Updated:

A safe place to learn and positive influences can be luxuries for some children across the metro Birmingham area. Just a few months back, we told you about the Ensley five homicide involved teens killing teens. But one man is hoping to change that with the help of a local pastor, on this father's day.

"I cant be there father but maybe I can give them the words of encouragement that a father would give."

Keith Davis is a father and former NFL football player with the New York Giants. He decided to spend his Sunday morning at Breed of Life World Outreach Ministries to mentor and support the youth. Davis says, "I can't be there father but maybe I can give them the words of encouragement that a father would give. I just want to inspire their life, their education, excellence, their faith in GOD, everything."

The children were in utter shock when Davis walked in the church service.

Pastor Zanthia Turner says, "He offers a message that not only challenges them, but gives them hope to put GOD first in their life, and he's loved by thousands of kids, he travels the country, sharing the gospel message, and I think that it's important also for the men of our community to hear him because he's a father, a husband and he knows how important it is to be there for the children."

Davis left with these words...

"I want say to all of my young people, you guys are special your valuable and your important, and if you dad's not here… you only came through your mom, through your dad, but you came from God, so you have a heavenly father..."
