Day three into the shooting death of a Walker County toddler, the investigation remains open.
According to police, three year old Landon Walker suffered a single gunshot wound to the chest area after a gun fired by his father --identified by family as-- Kyle Walker went off.
The child's father has said the shooting was accidental but police ruled as such nor have they ruled it out.
On Wednesday, police were still questioning family members after spending all day Tuesday interviewing Landon's mother and father. The two are divorced and had joint custody of Landon. The incident happened where the father lives on Wingate Drive Monday near the Dora line in Sumiton.
The coroner tells ABC 3340 he does not have a complete autopsy report. But, we learned Wednesday police were analyzing preliminary autopsy results. Police Chief T.J. Burnett declined to comment.
Earlier in day by phone, Landon's grandmother spoke with ABC 33/40. She said quote, "Landon's dad (Kyle) would never do anything to hurt his own child. He loved him too much." On Tuesday, Kyle Walker's facebook page had lots of condolences from many of his facebook friends.
Meanwhile, the family has made arrangements to lay the toddler to rest. All will take place at New Horizon Memorial Funeral Home in Sumiton on Friday. 10:30 to 11am will be a private viewing for the family, followed by a public visitation until 1pm and then service in the funeral home chapel.
