Soft drink ban

Posted: Updated:

New York's mayor has a new target in his fight against the city's obesity problem.  The New York Times says Michael Bloomberg wants to ban those super-sized soft drinks available at fast food restaurants, arenas and movie theaters.  Under the proposal, the sale of sugary drinks larger than 16 ounces would be prohibited.  That would include energy drinks, pre-sweetened iced teas and sodas.

The New York Beverage Association says quote: "the city isn't going to address the obesity issue by attacking soda because soda is not driving the obesity rates." If the ban goes through, it would take effect in March.  This would be the first ban of its type in the nation.
