No. 1 Oral Roberts scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to beat No. 4 Southern Utah 2-1 in game two of the 2012 Summit League Baseball Tournament, presented by Currington Mortgage, Thursday night.
ORU (34-22) had just two hits through seven innings, but got three in the eighth, including a double by Jose Trevino to score Brandon Healy and tie the game. Cam Schiller followed with a single down the left field line to score Trevino, which proved to be the go-ahead run.
Drew Bowen pitched eight innings with just one run and six strikeouts as the Summit League Player of the Year earned his sixth victory of the season. Joe Spring finished the last three outs without surrendering a hit and earned his second save of the year.
Despite a solid pitching performance, Justin Neubauer (6-4) was hit with the loss. Neubauer was charged with both runs in 7.2 innings of work.
Offensively, Schiller had two of the five hits for ORU, while Mitchell Kauweloa had three hits and Bo Cuthbertson added two more to pace the Thunderbirds.
Southern Utah finally broke open the scoring in the top of the sixth inning as they loaded the bases with just one out. A line drive to right was caught on a dive by Logan Domenico and his throw home popped loose as ORU tried to double up the runner tagging from third.
The Golden Eagles move to the winner's bracket and will face No. 3 North Dakota State at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, while Southern Utah faces No. 2 Oakland in an elimination game at noon.
