BIRMINGHAM - AL -

The theme of this National Women's Health Week is-- It's Your Time"!

Women must make themselves and their health a priority.

Get active, eat healthy, stop smoking , get enough sleep and manage your stress.

Experts say, if you take time for yourself you'll be able to fit things in and prioritize and organize better.

And be sure to make your emotional health a priority too because your mental health and physical health are tied together.

Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Vivian Smith Carter says, "Stress related illness and depression those are on the top five things. heart disease, there's a component that is genetic, but you can make heart problems worse by worrying and overdoing it. There is no real separation between physical and mental health".

It's important that we help the sisters, daughters, aunts, mothers, grandmothers-- all the women in our lives put their health first so that they can live longer, healthier and happier lives.

Join us for the fourth annual Women's Health 5-K Run and 1-mile Mother-Daughter Walk this Saturday, May19th at 8:00 a.m. at Homewood High School.
