Oklahoma State junior pitcher Andrew Heaney is one of 35 semifinalists for an award given to the top player in college baseball, the university announced Friday.
Heaney, a lefty from Oklahoma City, is 8-and-1 with a 1.63 earned run average for the Cowboys this season, including five complete games and three shutouts.
He's second in the NCAA with 132 strikeouts this season -- the fifth most by any Cowboy player in a single season.
The Dick Howser Trophy is awarded in memory of the former Kansas City Royals manager who died of brain cancer in 1987. It is regarded by many as college baseball's "Heisman Trophy".
The winner will be announced June 15th, on the opening day of the College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska.
The only Oklahoma State player to win the award is Robin Ventura, who received the honor in 1988, the second year it was handed out.
