Actor George Lindsey has been laid to rest in Jasper. He was buried in Oak Hill Cemetery Saturday afternoon. Lindsey was best known for his role as "Goober" on The Andy Griffith Show.
He was born in Fairfield on December 17, 1928 and raised in Jasper as an only child. He graduated from Walker County High School.
Lindsey died Sunday after a brief illness. He was 83. A memorial was held Friday in Nashville.
Anyone may visit the Bankhead House in Jasper where memorabilia and pictures are on display in honor of the actor and humanitarian.
In lieu of flowers and gifts, the family is asking that donations be made to the Special Olympics of Alabama, The University of North Alabama Foundation for the George Lindsey Film and Digital Media Scholarship, or another charity of choice.
