Making music can ease stress and help you forget about your woes.
That's why a local Sixth Grade Band went to a retirement home... to serenade the residents... but while they were there they found the blessing... of seniors.
The youngest came together with these seniors at Chateau Vestavia.... to give them the gift of music... to lift their spirits.
But while they were giving... they received as well... the gift of history... they found out how these seniors had a role to play in keeping the freedom for our Nation in World War 2.
They found out these men and women helped shape the world these young musicians live in today.
Jim Knight the Band Director says, "These children are just starting their journey to give back."
Briarwood Band Director Jim Knight has committed his career to helping to shape young people to give back.
Jim Knight. "I've been doing this 44 years since 1968 married and my wife and i got my first job."
Now decades later.... he is still teaching young people how to make music... and enrich lives.
He will be retiring from Briarwood... but will continue his ministry with music.
He wants to remind the young people... of his favorite verse.
Jim Knight. "Jeremiah 29:11, God has a way prepared for us and he's gonna do good things for us."
Already the young people are learning... it is better to give.
Morgan Mckaig is a young musician. He says, "It felt nice to have a good time."
Garrett Bell is another musician. He says, "It felt good."
Musician Bailey Johnson says, "At first I was nervous... Then played and started to have fun."
Mr. Knights legacy will live on at Briarwood... as the children look forward to similar concerts in the future.
