Most people who decide to get a tattoo do so to make a fashion statement. These days, however, there is a growing trend among some Americans to get a tattoo to warn first responders about an important medical condition.
It is called medical tattooing. Such a tattoo might show a person's allergies, chronic disease, or even an end-of-life wish.
So far, the American Medical Association has not specifically addressed medical tattoos. Some physicians say that could change quickly because of the popularity.
Right now, it is not clear if such a medical tattoo would carry any legal weight.
