JEFFERSON COUNTY - AL -
February 2, 2012 the Alabama Association of Nonprofit's, in partnership with the Alabama Broadcasters Association, raised $743,985 for state charities. The Jefferson County Library Cooperative (JCLC) was a participant and is pleased to announce that they tripled their $3,000 goal to $10,773, from 313 donors on February 2. Library lovers…users… and cardholders stepped up to the plate and put JCLC in the #1 People's Choice category with the highest (313) donors award, and #5 place in the Top Ten Alabama Nonprofit's in donation amounts ($10,773) raised.
The majority of the 313 donors are first-time donors to JCLC. The Jefferson County Library Cooperative (JCLC) was recently eliminated from the Jefferson County budget for the first time in 33 years. JCLC began soliciting and accepting donations in 2009 when the first major cuts were made to library services by Jefferson County. JCLC cooperative services link all 40 public libraries together with the "one county - one card" system.
Local library buildings, staff, and operations are funded at the local level. But JCLC, a nonprofit organization, provides all 40 Jefferson County city public libraries-including your local library-with essential services like one centralized catalog that provides access to 2 million items, and the ability to use one library card at all locations. Internet access, downloadable audio and E-books, along with book and DVD delivery between libraries are other core services that are funded by JCLC. The JCLC delivery trucks transport an average of 4 million items annually to the 40 library locations.
