TUSCALOOSA - AL -
Federal officials say a new building planned for the University of Alabama campus will be the nation's "nerve center" for water research. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration National Water Center will be a central location for collaboration between academic institutions across the country and the more than 20 federal agencies involved in critical water research. Ground was broken Tuesday, and construction is expected to be complete by 2014.
University trustees approved the 60,000-square-foot structure in June. NOAA is paying for the structure and is leasing the property from the university.
