The Food and Drug Administration will investigate whether inhalable caffeine sold in lipstick-sized
canisters is safe for consumers.
Each canister of AeroShot contains B vitamins and 100 milligrams of caffeine powder, about the
equivalent of a large cup of coffee. It is available in Massachusetts and New York, because it's labeled as a dietary supplement and, therefore, did not require FDA review.
Sen. Charles Schumer, (D-NY), believes it could be misued by children and teenagers. "The bottom line is this product asks more questions than we have answers. To have it on our shelves before those answers are given is a serious, serious, serious mistake," Schumer said.
Schumer is also concerned about what Aeroshot would do when mixed with alcohol.
