Security breach may affect local mortgage customers

Posted: Updated:
BIRMINGHAM - AL -

Some local homeowners and others who may have tried to buy a home may have had their personal information exposed in a hacking attack.  That information could include name, date of birth, contact information, marital status, social security number, employment and financial information.  According to the company, this also could include income, asset and liability information.

The breach happened on a loan pre-qualification web site DHI Mortgage.  It's a branch of DR Horton which has built many homes in the metro area.  The company sent an e-mail to customers this week, saying it took immediate action to isolate the affected computer server.

DHI Mortgage is referring its customers to major credit bureaus, so they can place fraud alerts on their credit files.

If you believe you have been affected, contact one of the three bureaus below and ask for a fraud alert.
