Alabama gets no waiver on No Child Left Behind

Posted: Updated:
WASHINGTON - DC -

Alabama is not among 10 states President Barack Obama granted waivers to concerning the controversial No Child Left Behind law, but it may apply.

The move gives leeway to states that promise to improve how they prepare and evaluate students.  The President said, "We can combine greater freedom with greater accountability."

Under the current law, all students must be 100% proficient in language arts and math by 2014.
