In many parts of Central Alabama, flowers and some trees are in full bloom, particularly those that don't normally bloom until March and April. It's a sight that's unusual for many people in the winter. In fact, due to the mild temperatures, people's allergies are picking up too.
In fact, Jefferson County Health Department reports that, in the last week, doctors have seen a 2 percent increase in patient's experiencing allergy symptoms, including runny nose, sneezing and cough. On a state level, some counties have flu-like specimens, including Jefferson County. But the Alabama Department of Public Health reports no outbreak of the flu.
Dr. Weily Soong at the Alabama Allergy and Asthma Center advises people with allergies to limit their outdoor activity, take medications and, if needed, get allergy shots.
