It was on this day 60 years ago, a 25 year old woman ascended to the British throne. Queen Elizabeth became monarch upon the death of her father, King George VI.

Monday, The Queen kicked off a year's celebration marking her Diamond Jubilee. Most of the celebrations are slated for this summer.

One of her granddaughter's Prince Eugenie, said, "Whenever granny walks into a room everyone stands up, stops and just kind of watches her because obviously it's huge when she walks into a room and I kind of take in a deep breath."

The queen has given no indication she is even considering giving up the throne anytime soon. She is almost 86 years old.
