Alarming news for women who have diabetes, especially if their blood sugar isn't well-controlled.
Diabetes is known to affect the eyes, kidneys and other organs, now research shows it can affect hearing as well.
The new study indicates, diabetes is associated with hearing loss in women whether it was well-managed or not.
Researchers at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, examined the hearing test results of 990 men and women.
Poorly controlled diabetics' hearing was 28 percent worse than the non-diabetic's hearing.
This was especially true in women over age 60.
Among women even with well-controlled diabetes hearing loss was 14 percent worse compared to those without diabetes.
Experts say, there was no link between hearing loss among men and diabetes, whether it was well-managed or not. #
