Recent figures show that sexually transmitted infections have more than doubled in the last ten years among 50 to 90-year olds. Research finds that 80% of people in that age group are sexually active.
Statistics from the United States, the United Kingdom, and Canada reveal an increase in syphilis, chlamydia and gonorrhoea among 45 to 64-year-olds.
There has also been an increase in cases of HIV among those 50 and older. New diagnoses doubled between 2000 and 2009.
