The maker of some widely used birth control pills voluntarily recalls its product.
Today, Pfizer Inc. announces the recall of 14 lots of Lo/Ovral28 Tablets and 14 lots of its generic form.
Pfizer found that some blister packs of the oral contraceptives may contain an inexact count of inert or active ingredient tablets and that the tablets may be out of sequence.
As a result of this packaging error, the daily regimen for these birth control pills may be incorrect and could leave women at risk for unintended pregnancy.
These products are packaged in blister packs containing 21 tablets of active ingredients and seven tablets of inert ingredients.
These packaging defects do not pose any immediate health risks.
Women with the pills should notify their physician and return the product to the pharmacy.
