Acid reflux is common in many children with asthma.
So doctors investigated to see if the acid reflux medication would help control asthma.
In a new study researchers tested a proton pump inhibitor or P-P-I which is used to help suppress stomach acid.
Half of the children were given the acid reflux medicine in addition to an inhaled corticosteroid medication.
The other half were given a placebo.
They found the acid suppressor does not help poor controlled asthma symptoms in children.
The study appears in the journal of the American Medical Association.
