"This little guy here - he's displaced from the tornado. He's looking to find his family again," Phil Doster, BJC Animal Control said. "They're timid. They're scared as you can imagine with all the trauma they've been through."
So far 10 dogs have been brought to BJC Animal Control over the past several days. They were found in several of the storm damaged areas.
BJC Animal Control, along with organizations in Clay-Chalkville and the Humane Society are helping take care of lost pets.
"We're not seeing the intake we were back in April, but we are still needing food to supply to the people who don't have access to dog food and cat food for their pets," Doster said.
Unlike many of the others, Sarge's story has a happy ending. His family lost their home this week and finding their pet wasn't easy. They're hearing impaired and asked a police officer to help search. His furry frame stood out from the debris - and Sarge is being taken care of, until his family gets back on their feet.
"WWe're not charging owners to come get their pet - we want to make sure that they are taken care of and that you are in a good situation to come take them home," Doster said.
And if they could talk they'd likely have fantastic survival stories to share.
"We're taking care of them the best we can - hoping, though their families can get back in a situation to come take them home," Doster said.
The Greater Birmingham Humane Society is also helping out. It's collecting pet food donations for families who lost their homes.
