Led by Jordan Clarkson's 12 second-half points, Tulsa outscored Rice 45-24 in the second period to pull away to a 70-46 Conference USA victory Saturday evening at Tudor Fieldhouse.
The Golden Hurricane (11-9, 4-2 C-USA), which led 25-22 at the half, shot 58 percent in the second half and held the Owls (11-9, 2-3 C-USA) to just 28 percent shooting.
Clarkson led TU with 14 points and six rebounds. Steven Idlet and Tim Peete each added 10 points for Tulsa, which shot 53 percent for the game and held a 43-28 rebounding advantage. TU also blocked nine shots and the Hurricane bench scored 34 points.
Rice, which shot 31 percent for the game, was led by Jarelle Reischel's 11 points and six rebounds.
Tulsa opened the second half on a 21-9 run to open up a 46-31 lead with 7:36 on the clock. The Golden Hurricane held the Owls without a field goal for 10:38, creating a cushion as large as 21 points during that run.
The Golden Hurricane returns to the friendly confines of the Donald W. Reynolds Center to face UCF at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
