Hardwood is also better economically because it doesn't burn as quickly. Hardwoods include oak, maple, hickory, apple and ash. Only burn solid wood, because particle board and plywood contain toxins in their preservatives and adhesives. Another tip is to install a carbon monoxide alarm.
