BIRMINGHAM - AL -

Jefferson County wants to terminate leases on the unoccupied satellite courthouses. But the landlords of those properties aren't letting go without a court fight.

Friday, landlords for the satellite courthouses in Homewood, Gardendale and Forestdale filed objections to the county's request to end the leases.

The move would save 600 thousand dollars per year in rent and 80 thousand dollars in utilities.

The request is now being consider by U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Thomas Bennett.

The county manager is developing a plan to sell the empty Center Point location. It is owned by the county. E911 has already shown interest in buying it.
