Some Jefferson County workers will begin the New Year with bad news.
The first round of termination letters to workers on unpaid leave are in the mail. Commissioners have said the 550 employees on leave who haven't found work or retired should expect to have their jobs eliminated.
But they will be able to appeal the decision.
This week, the federal judge just lifted a stay against the Jefferson County Personnel Board. He has told the board it can hear appeals and reinstate back pay.
At least 50 workers are expected to have their cases heard soon.
