Some tech headlines:
Some new Apple users are at higher risk from a new phising scam. It's a very official looking e-mail, appearing to be from Apple. It asks the person to update their billing information, and provides a link to do so. The problem is, the link directs to a fake apple web site. It looks official, but if you put in your user name and password you're handing them over to the scammers. The e-mail could be particularly dangerous to new Apple owners, because they may not be surprised to get this sort of e-mail associated with a new account.
It was a pretty big holiday season for smart phone manufacturers. Nearly seven million new mobile devices were registered on Christmas eve and Christmas day. But the top sales award goes to the Android OS. About 3.7 million new droids are out there. Apple picked up about 3.1 million new registrations. No word on Windows phone registrations.
Online piracy could be a sign of bad taste in movies. A new list is out for the top ten films people illegally downloaded in 2011. Fast Five took the top spot. The Hangover 2 was number 2. The top five are rounded out by Thor, Source Code, and I Am Number Four. The better films didn't fare as well. Best Picture winner The King's Speech doesn't appear until number nine. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part 2 is number ten.
