The ORU men's basketball team returned to conference play Wednesday night, defeating UMKC 72-65 in Kansas City behind Dominique Morrison's 28-point effort.
Morrison scored 16 of his points in the first half as the Golden Eagles (10-4 overall, 2-0 Summit League) led 40-28.
The Kangaroos (7-8, 1-2) made things interesting in the second half, going on an 11-4 run to cut the lead to 54-52 on Kirk Korver's 3-pointer with 7:41 remaining.
But, ORU later scored six straight to push the advantage back to nine points and would hold on for the seven point victory.
Oral Roberts won despite shooting 0-of-11 from the field. They countered by knocking down nearly 66-percent of their two-point baskets and hitting 22-of-26 from the free throw line.
Michael Craion joined Morrison in double figure scoring for ORU, chipping in 14 points to go with a career-high 16 rebounds -- just one fewer than the entire UMKC team.
Reggie Chamberlain scored 17 to lead the Kangaroos.
Oral Roberts will continue conference play Friday at South Dakota. The Coyotes are 5-7 overall and 0-3 in Summit League play after an overtime loss to Southern Utah Wednesday night.
