$10,000 reward for information, conviction in Oxford murder

OXFORD - AL -

"Not knowing who's done this...who took her from us is one of the hardest things ever," Dawn Cimato said.

It's been a difficult couple of weeks for Cimato. On September 9 her mother, 56-year-old Barbara Exum, was murdered. A police sketch of the suspect is all she has to identify who's responsible.

"Heartless," she said as she looked at the picture. "It's the guy that took my mom. Honestly, I don't know how he walks around at night."

According to Oxford Lt. L. G. Owens the man walked into an Oxford Papa John's where Exum was working about 11:30 p.m. and demanded cash. When she refused the gunman fired a warning shot. When he asked and she said no again he put the gun to her chest and pulled the trigger.

But now there's a new incentive to find her killer...$10,000. The idea is that money talks.

"That's what we're hoping," Owens said.

$5,000 is being offered from Papa John's while the other $5,000 is coming from Gov. Robert Bentley's office.

"You may think if you have information on this case...you may think you're information is insignificant or think [the police] are going to find that out on our own," Owens said. "No, don't hesitate to call us. That's what we're here for."

"Think about how you would feel if this happened to your mom," Cimato said.

Urging anyone and everyone to come forward and help give her family closure.

If you have information on the case, you can call the Oxford Police Dept. at (256) 831-3121.
