Anniston police officer Justin Sollohub has been pronounced dead after being shot in the head Wednesday morning while on patrol. His death means Josh Russell has added one more charge to his rap sheet-- capital murder.

According to court records, Russell has plead guilty in Calhoun County to unlawful distribution, resisting arrest and providing a false name to an officer.  Anniston police say he had drug warrants in Oxford and an assault against officer in Troy.

Russell is being held in the Etowah County Jail. Calhoun County Sheriff Larry Amerson says the move is to ensure is he treated fairly.

Russell's grandmother tells ABC 33/40 she is very disappointed with the child she raised, and has not spoken to him since he was arrested. A cousin, Kim Warren, called the shooting " a tragedy". She offered her condolences to the family and friends of officer Sollohub.

Jacksonville High School Principal Mike Newell taught and coached the former high school linebacker. Newell remembers Sollohub saying he was considering law enforcement as a career. He said he spoke with his former pupil 2 weeks ago, and was pleased to know how much he loved his job.

Sollohub had been kept alive on life support until his organs could be donated.
