Have you heard... for the second time in about a week, we are able to report good news in the fight against cancer.
There is a new drug that has shown promise in trials for people with metastatic melanoma.
Unlike chemotherapy which shuts down new cell growth in the tumor as well as healthy cells... This new drug known as Zelboraf... Targets the growth signals of the tumor... And shuts it down while leaving healthy cells alone.
It has been effective in prolonging life in people who have late stage metastatic melanoma.
Melanoma is one of the deadliest forms of cancer.
What is extremely exciting, is that it should also reduce what can be dangerous side effects for the patient.
It comes with a specific test to see if the mutated cell is one that would be killed off by the drug.
There is hope. A woman reports she could see her tumor had gotten smaller.
Keep on praying for a cure. We are closer than ever to defeating cancer.
Stay tuned, I can't wait for the next breakthrough.
