If one of Birmingham's oldest citizens were to blow out her birthday candles, it would likely take quite a while.

Mirtie Silmon ricks is ringing in her 100th birthday at the Embassy Suites in Hoover with 200 of her close friends and family.  This energetic 100 year old came from a family of eight siblings. Her mother also lived a century. And when we asked her the secret to her long life - she said, she just "keeps on living."

"I'm thankful they all came," Mirtie Silmon Ricks, said. "I am so thankful they all came!"

Her party tonight featured the local band, "Over-flo." Along with poetry from her great-great grandchildren, her favorite music, and even some dancing.
