MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Some parents of home-schooled children are supporting proposed legislation that would allow their kids to play competitive sports with public school students.
The Alabama High School Athletic Association requires students to be enrolled in the school they're representing to play sports.
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) - Tuscaloosa city schools officials say they're hoping to replace broken security cameras by the end of the month. The director of the district's facilities program says about 20 percent of the district's cameras don't work. Johnson says some of the cameras in the system are as much as 11 years old.
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - A House committee will consider a new version of the education budget that does away with a teacher bonus and instead puts the money toward education employees' health insurance. The budget committee chairman says a pay raise won't help educators if they have to pay every dime, plus some extra, to higher health premiums.
DECATUR, Ala. (AP) - Police in Decatur say a man and woman are out of the hospital after they were both accidentally shot while lying in bed. Police say a 41-year-old woman and her 24-year-old boyfriend were lying in bed Sunday morning when he decided to clean his gun. The gun discharged.
