Jerome Dyson scored 24 points and Elijah Millsap added 23 points and 11 rebounds, but the top-seed Iowa Energy opened the second round of the NBA D-League playoffs with a 103-96 win Friday night at the Tulsa Convention Center.
Iowa appeared to be on its way to a rout early, scoring the first seven points of the game and leading 12-2 after just three and a half minutes of play.
The 66ers trailed by ten heading to the fourth quarter, but cut the lead to three on Robert Vaden's 3-pointer with 9:37 remaining.
Iowa extended it back to nine, but once again Tulsa fought back, using a 12-5 run to pull within two on a lay-up by Ryan Reid with 1:35 to play.
But, Curtis Stinson scored back-to-back buckets for the Energy and a pair of 66er turnovers allowed the lead to grow to eight with just 21 seconds remaining.
Michael Haynes led Iowa with 23 points. Stefhon Hannah (23) and Stinson (21) also eclipsed the 20-point mark.
Game two of the series will be played Monday in Des Moines. If necessary, game three would also be in Des Moines Tuesday night.
