There's a group that is set up to watch out for orphans. It's called "Defend the Orphans".
Their signature Scripture is Isaiah 1:17 "learn to do good, seek justice, reprove the ruthless, defend the orphans, plead for the widow."
Their mission statement: To extend God's hear for the orphan to domestic and international orphans through God's people behind his hands, feet and voice sharing His love with them to the Glory of God.
It's easy for children without a family to give up hope. But that's what this group wants to prevent. They want to show the orphans they love them and want to help them have a bright future, as is promised in Jeremiah 29:11 "I know the plans I have for you, they are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope."
If you wonder why you should get involved, the group has an answer to that question with another Scripture: James 1:27 says "pure and undefiled religion is the sight of our God and Father is this, to visit orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself unstained by the world."
You can help by praying for the orphans, or you can volunteer or make a donation. Contact Lauree Spurlin at 205 349-1139.
There will also be a walk to support the mission coming up. It's called Walk This Way! At Coaling Town Park at 9am. For more on that you can contact 205 792-3515.
