Now that the wintry weather mix is pushing through the state, a number of roads in Calhoun County have been closed. The County Road Department declared several too hazardous for travel in some places.
Vigo Road, from the county line south into Piedmont; Bain's Gap Road; White's Gap Road and Cottaquilla Road are now closed. Highway 78 East, near the Cleburne County line on Heflin Mountain, is reported to be particularly hazardous. The Calhoun County Sheriff's Department says these roads are normally the first to have problems in freezing conditions.
Please use caution on all roads during travel.
