Men even with all the pink coming up this October for breast cancer awareness, don't forget to take care of yourselves.
The pink is a good reminder to get your psa test. In the last few weeks I have heard of more people diagnosed with prostate cancer. But the good news is that early detection is the key to survival. Now there are new surgical techniques to reduce and eliminate side effects from surgery.
Be sure to get a simple blood test at your doctor's office, and that few minutes could save your life. Surgery and radiation can eliminate the cancer and the patient can live a long and healthy life after treatment.
Recently I was able to visit with Dr. Wade at St. Vincent's East. He uses the DaVinci. It's a robot that helps remove the cancer. The Doctor actually maneuvers the arms of the robot. Smaller incision can be made and recovery time is reduced greatly. The DaVinci helps magnify the area for the surgeon and can move in ways the human hand and arm can not.
So even if the town is painted pink in the next few weeks, let it be a reminder to men also to get tested. And for everyone, to pay attention to their bodies and anytime there is a change in the skin or a pain to pay attention and if it persists, get checked out.
