A former Arkansas offensive lineman is being honored with a new national award that will bear his name.
The Burlsworth Award will be given to a college football player who began his career as a walk-on. It's named after Brandon Burlsworth, who worked his way from a walk-on with the Razorbacks, earned a scholarship and went on to become a second-team All-American.
He was selected by the Indianapolis Colts in the third round of the 1999 NFL Draft, but died in a car accident just weeks later.
Through the Brandon Burlsworth Foundation, a total of 100-thousand dollars is awarded to recipients at the University of Arkansas, but this new award will go to a national recipient.
