Honora Gathings anchors the Sunday news. She also covers Jefferson County and the Alabama Legislature during the week.
Honora was born and raised in Birmingham. She graduated from Advent Episcopal Day School and Mountain Brook High School. After earning her bachelor's degree from Florida State University, she moved to New York to intern with ABC's "Good Morning America" and worked as a desk assistant for ABC News.
Honora then went on to get her master's degree in broadcast journalism from Boston University. In Boston, she covered politics for WFCR-FM and reported for Neighborhood Network News. Honora also reported for KECI-TV in Missoula, MT before returning to the South to complete a mini-documentary on the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Her last job took her to South Bend, IN where she spent two years reporting for WSBT News.
Honora joined the ABC 33/40 news team in 2008. She covered the BP oil spill, bingo bribery trial, April 27 tornadoes, and Jefferson County bankruptcy.
In July 2012, she and her husband welcomed their first child, a girl.
