Metro Birmingham, Ala. - *Video will be shown Tuesday night at 10:00 on ABC 33/40 News and again Wednesday morning during Good Morning Alabama. The video will also be uploaded on this site Wednesday morning.*
Crime Stoppers is asking for anonymous clues to help detectives identify and locate suspects in two new cases. The first case involves a theft from inside a church near Highland Park. The second case involves a crime of opportunity in Trussville.
Church Theft: Birmingham detectives said a man accused of stealing a credit card chose to commit his crime inside a church. Surveillance pictures dated November 10 from Independent Presbyterian Church on Highland Avenue show the suspect wearing a black and blue jacket and khaki pants.
Police said the man was found by an employee in an office. The man apparently told the employee he was there to get help with gas money. The church reported helping the man, and even giving him a ride to an apartment along Cliff Road a few blocks away.
It was later when church staff noticed the credit card had been stolen out of the office where the man was found. Police said an attempt was made to use the credit card, but it had been de-activated.
"Whether he was in the church, or whether he was at someone's place of employment, it didn't matter to him," Sergeant James Lewis said.
Crime Stoppers is certain someone around Cliff Road can recognize the man from the video connected to this article.
"It's obvious that he knew where he was going, so it's obvious that he probably hangs up there," Lewis added.
Trussville Theft: Surveillance video shows a woman swiping a wallet from an unattended counter at a local discount store. Video then shows three women shopping with at least one credit card taken from the wallet.
"They go right down the road to another shop, and they start running three, four, five-hundred dollars' worth of a tab and just giggling and having a good time at somebody else's expense," Lieutenant Bill Musgrove said.
Crime Stoppers needs to hear from anyone who recognizes any of the female suspects. Detectives need to know the names of the women as well as locations where they may be found.
If you provide information on either case, no one will ask for your name, and Caller ID is never used. Also, the call is not recorded. Crime Stoppers will assign you a private code number.
If your tip is the first to lead to an arrest, you use the code number to claim the cash reward. Finally, Crime Stoppers cannot call you to testify in court.
