Tuscaloosa, AL - When you don't know how to get to where you're going, GPS's or Global Positioning System devices for your car have become hot gadgets. They're also hot targets for burglars. Tuscaloosa police say they've had at-least 120 reported stolen since the beginning of the summer this year. They say because the items are typically mounted with a suction cup on car windshields, they're very tempting for crooks. Police are advising owners of GPS's to hide them in the car in the glove compartment or covered console when you're not in the car. They stress not to take the device itself off and leave the mount in the window. Police say the mount alone makes crooks believe the GPS device is somewhere in the vehicle. Police say the GPS turn quick cash for crooks because they can be resold easily at the street level and not traced. Police say remember to lock your doors. in many of the stolen GPS cases, car doors were left unlocked.
