Gadsden, AL - A California police officer needs your help in solving a 33-year old case in Alabama. A 1963 Chevrolet Impala was found during a traffic stop in Los Angeles and it's believed to have been stolen in Gadsden in 1976.
Ryan Carroll of the California Highway Patrol works auto thefts and inspects vehicles referred to him by the Department of Motor Vehicles. The DMV determined the Chevy was suspicious during the traffic stop.
Carroll found some tell-tale signs that the car had been stolen. After he discovered the VIN was not originally issued to the Impala he was able to determine the car was reported missing in October 1976. He traced the theft back to Gadsden but is unable to determine the original owner.
The car's in good shape and has been painted red.
To claim the car the owner will need to provide information about the original color and identify some other specific details about the vehicle.
Anyone with information on a potential owner should contact Carroll at 310-516-3355 or rcarroll@chp.ca.gov.
