Birmingham - When it comes to paying for gifts, more shoppers will be going green this holiday season.

The National Retail Federation says one in four shoppers plan to pay with cash, instead of credit cards.

That's up almost 9% from last year. Another 42% plan to use debit or check cards.

Experts say, the day after Thanksgiving may just be the best day to buy cars, trucks, and s-u-v's. Customers won't find out the deals ahead of time, but it's possible to negotiate some big discounts.

The 75 percent of shoppers that will be using credit cards for Christmas gifts will spend 12 to 18 percent more than with using cash. This is great for retailers and the ones receiving the gifts. What a way to start the New Year out with new debt when the bills start arriving in January.

I have found that I can get some great deals when using cash. You can even negotiate prices at major retailers especially on the higher priced items.

The wise 25 percent of shoppers that used cash for Christmas gifts will have a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
