Wellborn, AL - A Calhoun County couple is killed in an apparent murder-suicide and their bodies are discovered by one of their 6 children.
It happened early Sunday morning in the town of Wellborn. Police say 50 year-old Thomas Hart shot and killed his 41 year-old wife, Wendy, and then shot himself. The couple had been married for 23 years.
Thomas' oldest son says his father was battling neck cancer. The Anniston Star Newspaper says "Members of the family of Thomas Dee Hart, 50, of Wellborn, blame cancer, radiation and medication as reasons why he apparently shot and killed his wife..."
A relative also told the Anniston Star Thomas' "brain was 'fried' from cancer treatment, marring his emotions. He would not leave his children without a mommy."
Thomas Hart was a construction worker and Wendy Hart worked at Winn Dixie. The couple's six children range from 7 years-old to early 20's. As of Monday night, the couple's oldest son says his siblings plan on staying in their current home where he will take care of them.
The Anniston Police Department is handling the case. We'll post updated information as soon as it becomes available.
