(Sports Network) - Austin Pettis snagged four of Kellen Moore's five
touchdown passes, as sixth-ranked Boise State cruised to a 63-25 victory over
Idaho at Bronco Stadium.
Moore threw for 299 yards on 22-of-32 efficiency, while Pettis finished with
123 yards on eight receptions for the Broncos (10-0, 5-0 WAC), who have won 24
straight home games.
Jeremy Avery had 110 yards and one score on 14 carries for Boise State. Titus
Young caught a touchdown pass and returned a kickoff for another score in the
win.
Idaho signal-caller Brian Reader had a day to forget. Replacing the injured
Nathan Enderle, Reader was picked off five times and fumbled once. He totaled
305 yards through the air on 17-of-27 attempts with one late touchdown -- a
52-yard completion to Princeton McCarty in the waning moments of regulation.
DeMaundray Woolridge amassed 143 yards on the ground and two scores for the
Vandals (7-4, 4-3), who have dropped three of four.
It was an unsettling start for Idaho as Reader turned the ball over on each of
the Vandals' first two possessions.
On the third play of the game, Reader lost the handle while being sacked. The
Broncos recovered at the Idaho 15 and Moore quickly hooked up with Pettis on a
four-yard touchdown. Boise State was successful on the two-point conversion.
Derrell Acrey then picked off the sophomore quarterback at the Idaho 31. Two
plays later, Moore threw a 25-yard TD pass to Young. The home team led 14-0
after the two-point try failed.
Idaho ditched the air attack on its next series, which featured eight running
plays. Woolridge's 29-yard dash put the Vandals on the board with 6:28 to play
in the first quarter.
The Broncos countered less than two minutes later as Pettis hauled in an
eight-yard toss from Moore.
After Trey Farquhar kicked a 30-yard field goal for Idaho early in the second
quarter, Avery burrowed his way into the end zone for a one-yard score and
Pettis caught a 20-yard strike, extending Bosie State's lead to 35-10 with
5:23 remaining.
Idaho put together a nine-play, 83-yard drive before the end of the first
half. Woolridge capped the long march with a one-yard plunge.
Any momentum the Vandals seized was quickly erased when Young took the ensuing
kickoff 100 yards for a touchdown with 14 seconds left.
The struggles continued for Reader in the third quarter. On Idaho's first
offensive series of the second half, he was picked off by Kyle Wilson, who
rumbled 71 yards for a score.
Later in the frame, Moore pitched to Matt Kaiserman and the running back
heaved a throw in the end zone to Kyle Efaw for an 11-yard TD.
Moore topped off his brilliant day with a 14-yard toss to Pettis early in the
final stanza.
