Pell City, AL - A Pell City woman wants to know why police shot and killed her son.
She says she has not seen her son since before he was shot and the only call she has gotten from authorities is someone asking where to send the body.
"I said what's wrong? 'We don't know.' I said what happened? 'We don't know.' Where are y'all taking him? 'We can't tell you nothing.'
Delores Bush is looking for answers. She wants to know why witnesses say a Pell City police officer shot and killed her son Barry Bush Thursday night.
"When I got here they turned me around right there," Bush said pointing. "And I looked in the back of the ambulance and he was in there. They had oxygen on him."
Barry Bush moved to the Shadydale Mobile Home Park three months ago. Police say they went there Thursday night to serve a search warrant for drugs.
The officer ended up in the hospital and Bush's son is dead.
"There was no drugs in this trailer," Bush said. "My son didn't use drugs. He didn't even drink alcohol."
Bush also said her son did not sell drugs. She says she believes officer went to the wrong mobile home.
Captain Ed Brasher will not say whether that is the case, only that the officer was well trained.
"He's been here at least 10 years and an outstanding officer and has done multiple search warrants and this is the first time we've had an outcome like this," said Brasher.
The officer is out of the hospital. Bush says her 41 year-old son did not have to die.
"You have to make a split second decision and unfortunately you can't go back and Monday morning quarterback it," said Brasher. "You get one chance at it and you hope you make the right decisions."
"I want justice done," said Bush. "I want justice done."
The police department will not release the officer's name. He is on administrative leave with pay pending the outcome of the ABI's investigation.
Bush has hired an attorney.
