Birmingham - A man arrested for the murder of a Birmingham teenager just got out prison after doing time for robbery and spending a time in rehab.
It's a troubling case for Birmingham's Police Chief who says it's another senseless murder. A little more than a week ago 21 year old Antonio Spencer allegedly murdered 19 year old Demarcus Ferrell, leaving his body in a car on the 1800 block of 19th Ave. N. Police Chief A.C. Roper says the system didn't work.
"We're going to do everything we can to make this city safer but we also need other individuals to get involved and join us and we also need other parts of the criminal justice system to be more effective," says Roper.
Roper says he understands some ex-cons return to jail but he says the turn around time of one month is "ridiculous."
