You can bet most drivers in West Alabama, especially Tuscaloosa have noticed gas prices significantly down in the area. A gallon of regular at some gas stations is $3.29. Drivers waited for a Jet Pep station on Hackberry Lane to open up after pumps got tired and shut down for about an hour. Peter Clark, a Chemical Engineer at the University of Alabama at Birmingham tells ABC 33/40 that a sluggish economy is lowering the demand for fuel and thus driving down gas prices. Clark says as long as the economy is down there will be an over supply of gas and prices will probably remain cheap. Some areas around the state and country are seeing regular drop below three dollars a gallon. However, the $3.29 for a gallon of regular in Tuscaloosa is actually lower than the national average which is $3.32. The average for Alabama is slightly higher at $3.46 a gallon.
